L.E.G.I.T./I.C.G.L. (Lesbian and Gay Immigration Task Force) was a not-for-profit activist group, based in Vancouver, Canada, which had been very instrumental since Dec., 1991 in advancing the rights of Canadians and others to live in Canada with their non-Canadian same-sex partners.

L.E.G.I.T./ I.C.G.L., Egale and other groups, were very influential in shaping the latest Immigration Laws, Rules and Regulations (Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA), Bill C-11, Chapter 27, June 28, 2002) to provide same-sex partners with a level and equal playing field regarding immigration to Canada.

The former application process through the back door using Humanitarian and Compassionate (H&C) grounds was replaced by a more open and more transparent process within the most-favoured Family Class application process.

In 2003, L.E.G.I.T./I.C.G.L (Lesbian and Gay Immigration Task Force) changed their name to LEGIT and are still very active in monitoring the application of the new immigration rules and regulations as they apply to same sex partners.

LEGIT HAMILTON was formed in 2004 as an independent arm to LEGIT. LEGIT HAMILTON is also a not-for-profit activist group in Hamilton, Ontario. Our group includes the two founding members, Noel and Ron, plus supporting volunteer professionals. Ron, a recent transplant from Montreal, formed LEGIT HAMILTON after being led on an unpleasant series of delays and disappointments dealing with Immigration Quebec and Immigration Canada since early 1999 through mid 2003 while trying to expedite the permanent entry of his partner, Noel, from India into Canada.

LEGIT HAMILTON through this web site aims to ease the mystery, smooth the way, warn of procedural pitfalls and minimize the heartaches associated with dealing with Citizenship and Immigration Canada to permanently bring a same-sex partner to Canada.

We are a self funded support group relying on the generous support of those that we assist through the immigration process. We encourage all those that we assist at our support meetings and those that are aided by the information and direction provided by our web site to donate to LEGIT HAMILTON to allow us to continue to help all who seek our assistance.
