To
obtain a Permanent Resident Card (PRC) for your non-Canadian
partner under the Family Class, you must sign an agreement (“Undertaking”)
with Immigration Canada to be his/her sponsor for 3 years so
that there will be no need to apply for social assistance.
The Sponsor also agrees to provide the basic necessities of life for the partner
for 3 years after partner becomes a Permanent Resident . These provisions would
include clothing, shelter, food, etc.
The non-Canadian partner also must sign a Sponsorship Agreement with the Sponsor
to make every effort to become self-supporting.
There is NO minimum income requirement to sponsor a spouse, partner
or dependent child. However, there are minimum income requirements
to sponsor other family members (~$30K gross -Sponsor with children
case).
